Got To Leave Louisiana

Got to Leave Louisiana
By Jimmy Rankin, Gordie Sampson

There’s nothing on the radio
The city lights are sinking low
Past the burned out cars
The Ponchartrain
What a crime what a shame
She came around imagine that
Left us all busted flat
Everybody knew her name and
We let her in just the same

Kicked around New Orleans
Worn out shoes and dirty dreams in the alley ways
There’s nothing left nothing here
Blue eyes crying in my beer
Like the tears of Old Susanna
I can’t believe I’ve got to leave Louisiana

There’s nothing on the radio
Nobody ‘round here not a soul
In Tennessee maybe Delaware
We’re all scattered everywhere

She dragged this town all through the mud
In a wake of rain and blood
Everybody knew but froze
When the levee broke and the water rose

Kicked around New Orleans
Worn out shoes and dirty dreams in the alley ways
Nothing left nothing here
Blue eyes crying in my beer
Like the tears of Old Susanna
I can’t believe I’ve got to leave Louisiana

Louisiana
Take what you reap
Take what you sow
Take what you can
Hit the road
Time to go

Kicked around New Orleans
Worn out shoes and dirty dreams in the alley ways
There’s nothing left nothing here
Blue eyes crying in my beer
Like the tears of Old Susanna
I can’t believe I’ve got to leave Louisiana

Louisiana
I’ve gotta leave
I’ve gotta leave
Louisiana
Louisiana
