Some time ago ‘neath a Western sky
Seen a midnight train rolling by
I swear by God it was seven miles long
As it rode past the ghost of Colorado Dave
Toward the Dawn
They say he ran with Jesse James
South of the border chasing banks and trains
Few other men were as cunning and so brave
As the desperado called Colorado Dave
He donned his hat and his raw hide boots
Left his home down on the rural route
Bade farewell to his mother and fair maid
And rode off alone
Colorado Dave
Ride Colorado
Get up get up ride away
Ride Colorado
The whole damn world is on your trail
In a one horse town so the legend goes
Dave rolled the dice with some boys from Idaho
Someone tipped a whiskey glass and a gun fight ensued
When the smoke finally cleared only Dave was standing in that saloon
They chased him high and chased him low
The whole damn posse was on the go
They vowed to lay him in his grave
But they couldn not catch Colorado Dave
Ride Colorado
Get up get up ride away
Ride Colorado
The whole damn world is on your trail
On a grassy river bank in the still of the night
The gang was laying low by a camp fire light
Dave laid his hat down with his blanket and his boots
Swam the brown Missouri all along that Western route
They chased him high and chased him low
The whole damn posse was on the go
They vowed to lay him in his grave
But they couldn not catch Colorado Dave
Ride Colorado
Get up get up ride away
Ride Colorado
The whole damn world is on your trail
Some time ago ‘neath a Western sky
Seen a midnight train rolling by
I swear by God it was seven miles long
As it rode past the ghost of Colorado Dave
Toward the Dawn
