Another Cape Breton singer-songwriter, Jimmy Rankin, was also a winner, taking home the coveted SOCAN songwriter of the year award for his song “Here in my Heart.†Group recording of the year honours went to Cape Breton trio Slowcoaster for their album, “The Darkest of Discos.â€
Townsend, Rankin, and Slowcoaster all performed during the gala awards show.
